Brian Harrison, a Texas state representative, used his social media account on July 16, 2025, to advocate for the elimination of property taxes and to criticize recent legislative actions in Texas.
In a post from early morning, Harrison announced an upcoming radio appearance: “Joining @ktrhnews tomorrow at 6:20am to discuss the upcoming special session and the need to eliminate property taxes. Tune in!” (July 16, 2025).
Later that day, he elaborated on his position regarding tax policy and the recent legislative session: “After the most anti-taxpayer session in Texas history, I was the first to demand a special session to ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAXES. Joined @ktrhnews to discuss the upcoming special session and why we must end the fake ‘property tax relief’ scams favored by the Austin uniparty.” (July 16, 2025).
In another post that evening, Harrison offered a critique of current state government policies: “Then Texas government is not small. Then Texas government is not conservative. Then Texas government is not low tax. Then Texas government is not low regulations. Then Texas government funds DEI. Then Texas government funds transgender ideology. Then Texas government” (July 16, 2025).
Harrison’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in Texas over property taxation and public spending priorities. Property taxes have been a central issue in state politics for years, with lawmakers periodically proposing reforms or reductions but facing challenges related to school funding and local budgets.
The mention of “DEI” refers to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives—programs that have become points of contention in several states regarding their place in public institutions. Similarly, references to funding “transgender ideology” reflect broader national debates about education policy and public resource allocation.
Harrison has positioned himself as an opponent of what he characterizes as insufficient tax relief efforts by other legislators and has called for significant changes during forthcoming legislative sessions.
