Brian Harrison, a Texas state representative, used his social media platform on July 21, 2025, to address issues related to government transparency and property tax policy in Texas.
In an early morning post, Harrison stated: “You’re welcome… it’s my privilege! FACT: I (and my X feed) have brought unprecedented transparency to the corruption of Austin swamp. Texans deserve freedom. Texans deserve… the TRUTH!” (July 21, 2025).
Later that day, Harrison addressed property tax cuts and legislative action during a special session. He wrote: “The bare minimum amount of property tax cuts enacted during this special session should be the amount of surplus we had just 6 months ago: $24 billion. I don’t care how many bills from 89(R) we have to repeal to do it! Texans expect bold action to eliminate property taxes.” (July 21, 2025).
Shortly after, Harrison announced new legislation aimed at repealing film industry incentives in Texas. He posted: “Today I filed HB139 to REPEAL the Hollywood tax subsidy program… and redirect every penny to lowering property taxes! SB22 was a California style, socialist abomination. Liberal Hollywood should never be prioritized over Texas taxpayers!” (July 21, 2025).
Harrison has been an advocate for increased government transparency and reducing or eliminating property taxes in Texas. The reference to “SB22” concerns a bill that expanded incentives for film production in Texas—a measure some critics have argued benefits out-of-state interests rather than local taxpayers.
The ongoing debate over property taxes and economic incentive programs remains central in Texas politics as lawmakers continue efforts to address budget surpluses and taxpayer relief.
