Brian Harrison, a Republican elected to the Texas State House in 2021 to represent the state’s 10th House district, has used his social media platform to criticize Texas Republican leadership for their handling of an ongoing quorum break by Democratic lawmakers.
On August 7, 2025, Harrison posted on X: “Texas Republican leadership could’ve – and should’ve – stopped this quorum break from ever happening… And they should’ve been able to end it by now. Embarrassing it’s been allowed to go on this long… especially with ZERO consequences for the Dems.”
Later that day, he continued his criticism in another post: “The Texas quorum break continues… with NO consequences to the Democrats. Sign the petition to tell Republican leadership you demand strong ACTION and not just tough talk. https://t.co/VBiFbscXRf” (August 7, 2025).
By August 7 at midday, Harrison highlighted what he described as a lack of punitive measures taken against Democrats participating in the quorum break: “Day four of quorum break… – seats ordered vacated: 0 – charges filed: 0 – arrests: 0 – chairmanships revoked: 0 – budgets cut: 0 – parking spots removed: 0 – seniority lost: 0 – offices defunded: 0 – punishments of any kind: 0 – sternly worded statements: countless”.
Quorum breaks have historically been used by minority parties in legislative bodies as a means of blocking legislation or delaying proceedings when attendance falls below the number required for official business. In recent years, such tactics have drawn national attention during contentious policy debates in Texas.
Harrison succeeded Jake Ellzey as representative for Texas’s 10th House district after being elected in a special election in September 2021.
