Brian Harrison, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 10th district since 2021, used his social media platform on August 4, 2025, to comment on recent legislative events involving both Democratic and Republican lawmakers in Texas.
In a post published at 2:11 a.m. UTC, Harrison stated: ” Democrats holding press now conference in Illinois. Almost every one of these DEMOCRATS voted to make Dustin Burrows Speaker of the Texas House. On Wednesday, the day the maps were filed – and WE HAD A QUORUM – it was Burrows who adjourned after only 7 minutes on the floor.”
Later that morning at 2:26 a.m. UTC, Harrison further criticized members of his own party by writing: “What’s on full display for the country to see right now is NOT how strong Texas Democrats are… but how weak Texas Republicans are.”
At 3:47 a.m. UTC, he continued his remarks regarding recent procedural developments in the Texas House: “No matter how this quorum break is resolved one fact remains: it was 100% preventable. If we had real Republican leadership it never would’ve happened.”
Harrison’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the Texas legislature following a quorum break related to redistricting map filings and subsequent legislative action. The reference to Democrats holding a press conference in Illinois alludes to instances where state lawmakers have left Texas to prevent a quorum and block legislative votes—a tactic used during contentious policy debates.
Elected in 2021 after Jake Ellzey vacated his seat, Harrison has positioned himself as an outspoken critic of both Democratic tactics and what he describes as insufficient Republican leadership within the statehouse.
