Brian Harrison, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, used his Twitter account on July 21, 2025, to criticize recent committee appointments made by Speaker Burrows. Harrison focused on the inclusion of Democratic Representative Gene Wu in a new select committee on redistricting.
In his first post, Harrison wrote, “Betrayal: Speaker @Burrows4TX just appointed radical Democrat @GeneforTexas to his new select committee on REDISTRICTING… This appointment comes moments AFTER Wu threatened a quorum break to stop Trump’s agenda!” (posted July 21, 2025).
Later that day, Harrison shared an update from the House floor as the special session began: “An update from the floor on day 1 of this special session… Not off to a good start.” (posted July 21, 2025).
Harrison continued his criticism with another tweet regarding Wu’s appointment: “It gets worse!… Speaker @Burrows4TX just appointed this Democrat, who calls @realDonaldTrump’s redistricting agenda “illegal,” to the new select committee on… REDISTRICTING!!” (posted July 21, 2025).
Redistricting in Texas has historically been a contentious process, often leading to partisan disputes and legal challenges. The selection of committee members is typically seen as influential in shaping how district lines are drawn and can affect political representation for years. In recent years, Texas legislative sessions have frequently featured debates over both procedural maneuvers such as quorum breaks and policy issues tied to national figures like former President Donald Trump.
