Brian Harrison, a Texas state representative, has recently posted several statements on his social media account criticizing legislative actions in the Texas House and Senate. The tweets address issues ranging from redistricting to proposed bans on hemp and diversity initiatives at public universities.
On July 22, 2025, Harrison alleged that the Texas House leadership undermined former President Donald Trump’s agenda by manipulating committee assignments. He wrote: “Trump asked Texas to redistrict, but the corrupt Texas House ‘leadership’ stacked the Redistricting Committee with radical DEMOCRATS who have committed to defeating Trump’s agenda and even threatened quorum breaks! I joined @Bannons_WarRoom to discuss this massive betrayal.”
Later that day, Harrison criticized ongoing efforts in the Texas Senate regarding hemp regulation. In a tweet posted at 15:16 UTC, he stated: “The Texas Senate is now hearing their bill to ban hemp (again), SB5. Why does the Austin swamp keep trying to turn Texas into a nanny state and ban things Trump protected like hemp and vapes? The government is not your parent! I will continue fighting for liberty. In another post later that afternoon, Harrison announced new legislative action targeting diversity policies in higher education: “Proud to file HB170 to eliminate the exceptions in SB17 that allow DEI in public universities.”
Harrison’s remarks come amid ongoing debates within the Texas Legislature over redistricting procedures and regulatory approaches toward substances such as hemp. Disagreements between factions of Republican leadership and Democratic members have led to accusations of partisanship in committee appointments and procedural maneuvers.
The issue of banning hemp products has surfaced repeatedly in recent legislative sessions. Some lawmakers argue for stricter controls due to concerns about public health and regulatory enforcement, while others advocate for personal freedoms and cite previous federal protections for certain products under the Trump administration.
Additionally, discussions around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies have intensified across several states. Legislation such as SB17 aimed at restricting DEI programs has faced criticism from advocates who say these measures limit campus diversity efforts; however, some legislators are seeking further limitations through bills like HB170.
