On July 24, 2025, Cook highlighted an endorsement from a local political figure: “As a former Somervell County Commissioner and Mayor of Glen Rose, @HelenKerwin4TX knows what it takes to deliver Conservative results for our constituents in the Texas Legislature. I’m honored to have her support and endorsement as the proven candidate for Senate District 22.”

David Cook previously served as mayor of Mansfield before running for state office. Senate District 22 covers parts of North Central Texas including Johnson County, Ellis County, and Hood County.
