During the first quarter of 2026, Focused Care of Waxahachie was the second largest nursing home reported in Ellis County, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The data reveals that the facility featured 152 beds—24 more than the county average for the quarter—serving an average of 64.9 residents.

CMS assigned Focused Care of Waxahachie an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which is lower than the 2.7 average among Texas nursing homes.

For comparison, Ennis Care Center reported the most beds in Ellis County for that quarter with 155, while Red Oak Health and Rehabilitation Center was third with 144 beds.

Focused Care of Waxahachie accrued $179,059 in fines through three total penalties as of the first quarter of 2026, and was issued four separate penalties overall.

Ellis County, Texas, had a total of seven for-profit nursing homes at that time.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, America’s older population has continued growing while younger segments are in decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the population aged 65 and up increased by 13%, while the under-18 group dropped by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has grown dramatically in the past century—from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study suggests almost half of this age group, about 28 million people, may need long-term services and supports. The study further estimated that more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
