Cleburne ISD says it has plans to close until April 6 due to the COVID-19 spread.
CISD officials cited Johnson County public health officials, who advised the closure of all schools. The shutdowns will follow Spring Break (March 16-20) and begin on March 23. An original plan for classes to resume March 30 was overruled by Gov. Greg Abbott's statewide shutdown of schools through Friday, April 3.
According to the website, were school-related activities were halted after March 13.
CISD Superintendent Kyle Heath says the closures are for the safety of the students and staff.
“After a series of conference calls with health officials and education leaders from across North Texas and a review of the information, we have at this time, we believe this is the right decision for our CISD students, their families, and our employees," he said.
As of March 20, two individuals had tested positive for the coronavirus. Heath says the CISD will make further announcements and monitor the health of the community. He also said they are getting their information straight from top health officials.
“We will continue to monitor the health conditions in our community over the next two weeks before making any further announcements, pending any directives we receive from health officials or the Texas Education Agency.”
Additionally, the district says it will be contributing take-out breakfast and lunch services to assist families in need.
