In response to COVID-19, a number of organizations – such as the North Texas Food Bank – are banding together to help the community.
According to Dallas Culture Map, North Texas Food Bank coordinated the Spectra and Fair Park First and In the City for Good on April 2, providing food to those in need. The event ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and fed patrons in a drive-thru fashion. The organizations involved ensured they were following precautions to protect people from becoming sick, limiting physical interactions.
Peter Sullivan, general manager of Fair Park for Spectra, said he was happy for the opportunity to support the general public.
“While COVID-19 has affected us all, it's great that we're able to host an event that benefits our immediate neighbors in south Dallas,” Sullivan said. "We're thankful for this opportunity to give back to our community and help where we can."
NTFB is an important part of the community, feeding those throughout a 13-county area and providing more than 200,000 meals a day.
Volunteers who came out to help loaded boxes of staple items into the patrons’ cars and closed the trunks to limit actual interaction and make the transfer as efficient as possible.
The pick-up was located at Lots 5A and 6A between Robert B. Cullum Boulevard and Second Avenue at Fair Park.
