The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Dallas-Fort Worth area that will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. Expect freezing rain and sleet mixtures to cause ice accumulations and travel related impacts beginning early Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing Tuesday and remain so until about midday Wednesday.

These conditions will make travel dangerous during commutes Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service says if you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, blankets and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. If you must travel, please:

  • Slow down and maintain at least three times the normal following distance on snow or ice;
  • Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first;
  • Remove snow and ice from your vehicle before driving and ensure your headlights and taillights are working properly; and
  • Allow yourself extra time to reach your destination if possible.

Current road conditions can be found by visiting drivetexas.org or by calling 1-800-452-9292.

Please be safe during this expected severe weather, and as always, consider the four P's:

  • PEOPLE: Check on family members and neighbors who may need extra blankets, help winterizing their homes or a warm place to stay.
  • PETS: Bring pets inside to keep them out of the cold.
  • PIPES: Cover exposed pipes, let faucets trickle and open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around your pipes and help prevent them from freezing.
  • PLANTS: Cover plants or move them indoors to protect them from the cold.

If you have a water emergency, call 817-276-4230 during business hours or 817-473-8411 after hours. Here's how to turn off your home's water at your meter.

If you experience a power outage, there are four ways to report the outage to Oncor:

  1. Call 1-888-313-4747
  2. Text OUT to 66267
  3. Download the Oncor mobile app at oncor.com/app
  4. Go to stormcenter.oncor.com
