The TCU equestrian team was defeated by Texas A&M, 11-8, in the national quarterfinals on Apr. 16 at the World Equestrian Center.
The loss ends TCU’s season after a comeback effort that saw them secure event wins on the Flat and in Horsemanship, but fall short overall. The match began with Fences, where Texas A&M took three points while Lex Lipacis scored for TCU and Maggie Dumrauf earned a draw. In Reining, Texas A&M extended their lead by winning four points; Calla Thomas was the only Horned Frog to win her matchup.
TCU rallied during the Flat event as Lipacis, Victoria Zahorik, and Lilly Goldstein each contributed points for their team. This brought the score to 9-5 heading into Horsemanship. Thomas and Peyton Staat won early points in Horsemanship to close the gap further before Texas A&M clinched victory by taking two more points. Marcella Bee closed out TCU’s scoring with a win in her first appearance of the season.
The Horned Frogs now trail Texas A&M 9-13 in their all-time series and finish this season with an 8-7 record—their fifth consecutive winning season, which is a program record. This year marked TCU’s thirteenth appearance at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships; they now hold an all-time championship record of 11-12.
Bee’s participation marked her debut for this season during Horsemanship.
