An AT&T executive told Dallas leaders that the telecommunications company has kept its pledge to the Federal Communications Commission to “keep Americans connected.”
According to NBC DFW Channel 5 News, in a May 18 video meeting Dallas City Council members told AT&T executive Mike Peterson that the company must continue to work on providing service for connections.
The FCC asked phone companies to waive disconnections and service fines during the COVID-19 crisis. Peterson said AT&T increased the number of people who would be eligible for discounted price services.
Peterson told the City Council that wireless voice and data usage have increased by 21% in the past weeks. He also revealed that landline calls are up by 73%. Peterson said there is universal access to broadband, which is a huge step forward from just a year ago. However, he also highlighted that many customers aren't aware of the service.
“There is near-universal access to broadband in Dallas, but in many neighborhoods, they’re not taking it,” Peterson said in the video meeting.
City Council member Tennell Atkins said wireless service needs to be improved in North Texas.
“My concern is, we still have so many dropped calls,” Atkins said in the video meeting.
