Redistricting of Council Districts

Following the 2020 decennial census, the City Council has certain responsibilities for redistricting its single member districts from which council members are elected. One of the first steps is to review the census data to confirm if a population imbalance of more than 10% exists, and if so, the redistricting process begins (see Initial Assessment Report). Although the overall population deviation is not extensive at 18.26%, the four council districts will need to be redrawn to comply with federal and state law.

Council adopted redistricting criteria that will serve as a framework to guide in the formulation and consideration of districting plans, and utilizing said criteria, Council begins the drawing process at its first workshop on Thursday, July 7th, 5:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers, 10 N. Robinson St.

The Council invites the public to attend the scheduled meetings. Guidelines have been established for persons submitting a comment or redistricting plan for consideration (see Guidelines for Public Comments-Submissions).
