The mission of the Cleburne Housing Department (CHD) is to provide rental assistance to the elderly, disabled and those with very low income while promoting safe, decent and sanitary housing conditions.
Due to the high volume of people on the waiting list to receive assistance, the waiting list was closed on Jan. 1, 2022 as staff members worked to effectively help the hundreds of people who had already applied.
Thanks to all of the hard work of CHD staff members, the department is now at a place in which the waiting list can be reopen to the public.
The waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program will reopen on Monday, Jan. 16.
The program, which is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, allows participants the freedom to select where they want to live within the housing authority's jurisdiction. Eligible families pay approximately 30% of their adjusted income towards rent.
