CLEBURNE – The culinary arts program at Johnson County High School will receive some help thanks to a $70,000 grant from the Rachael Ray Foundation and Rachael Ray’s Yum-o! Organization.
One of eight grants to schools across the county, the grant from the foundation will go toward improving and expanding the school’s ProStart programs covering the culinary arts and restaurant management. The programs are among efforts by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation effort to engage students who are interested in the food service field.
Herbie Adams, CTE supervisor for the Johnson County School System, said the grant money will go toward a variety of upgrades and supplies, including a food truck to provide students opportunities to engage their abilities in a work environment.
“These funds will provide opportunities for our students that wouldn’t be possible otherwise,” Adams said.
There are approximately 1,900 schools and 150,000 nationwide working in the ProStart program.
