Ellis County County: White students were most represented ethnicity in 2021-22 school year

Of the many ethnicities represented in Ellis County County schools, the most prevalent ethnic group among students enrolled in Ellis County County schools in 2021-22 school year were white, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 41,972 students attending Ellis County County schools, 40.6% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 38.6% of Ellis County County students.

In the previous school year, white students still were the most common group in Ellis County County, representing 42.3% of the student body.

Margaret L. Felty Elementary School had the most even distribution of races among the county schools, including 58.5% white students, 18.7% Hispanic students, 15.1% Black students, 5.4% Multi-racial students, 1.1% American Indian students, 0.9% Asian students, and 0.4% Pacific Islander students.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county increased 4.0% when compared to the previous year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
