Enrollment at Alvarado ISD schools increased by 3.9% compared to previous school year

There were 3,750 students enrolled in Alvarado ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.9% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.2% of them were boys, and 46.8% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Alvarado ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 47.5% of the student population.

Alvarado ISD roughly covers schools within Johnson County with its main office in Alvarado.

Among the seven schools in Alvarado ISD, Alvarado High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,172 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
